Kuits advise Smartkem Ltd in Finance Wales investment

Manchester, England firm Kuit Steinart Levy LLP has advised North Wales based innovative high tech microelectronics company, Smartkem Ltd in securing its latest round of investment.

SmartKem is developing new materials and processes for the printed electronics market to create high resolution electronic devices directly onto thin flexible materials like plastic and paper.  The new technology is set to be a major competitor to conventional silicon electronics which require a significant amount of energy to manufacture.

Steve Kelly, Chief Executive of SmartKem explains, “We see considerable scope for growth within this emerging industry and were delighted to secure this second round of investment to gear the company towards development.  Kuits advice and support was again of the highest quality.”

Kuits initially advised Smartkem in 2009 when the company received an initial start up investment from Finance Wales Investments Ltd, an institutional investor in Wales and two business angels.  This time around, corporate partner Kirsti Pinnell and solicitor Liz Swann advised on the further investment from Finance Wales and a private investor from the Xenos business angels network.

Kirsti Pinnell of Kuits commented, “The technology which Smartkem is developing is recognised by the UK Government as one which will open up a significant new market and has world-changing potential.   We are delighted to be involved with such a highly regarded technology right from its early development.”
